ROncoVet
Cancer researchers, government policymakers and the veterinary industry can access de-identified, transformed veterinary cancer data.
Dear colleagues and collaborators,
I have the honor and responsibility to initiate an essential initiative for veterinary medicine in Romania: the development of the National Animal Cancer Registry – RoncoVet-26, a modern platform, based on collaboration, scientific rigor and long-term vision.
Veterinary oncology is evolving rapidly, and the need for centralized, standardized and accessible data is becoming increasingly important. Together, we are building a national data platform that will provide us with valuable information on the incidence, risk factors, typology, diagnosis, treatment and evolution of tumor diseases in animals, in order to substantiate medical decisions and evidence-based veterinary public health strategies.
The success of this national project depends on the active involvement of veterinarians, clinics, diagnostic laboratories, veterinary medicine faculties and all relevant institutions in Romania. Each reported case contributes to a clearer picture of the veterinary oncological reality and to the continuous improvement of medical practice in our country.
I invite you to become part of this national initiative. Through collaboration, transparency and professionalism, we can create a reference tool for Romanian veterinary medicine and for future generations of specialists.
With special consideration,
Prof. Marian Taulescu

The National Registry of Animal Cancer in Romania (ROncoVet-26) is a national project dedicated to the collection, centralization and analysis of data on the incidence and typology of oncological diseases in animals. The initiative belongs to the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca (USAMVCN) and aims to develop a modern, standardized database to support scientific research, veterinary medical practice and the educational process.
ROncoVet-26 is developed within the project "USAMV-CN DIGITAL CONNECTING: Increasing the quality of the educational act through digital development", no. 14069/16.09.2022, contributing to the digitalization and modernization of the academic and research infrastructure, as well as to the consolidation of national collaboration in the field of veterinary oncology.
The National Animal Cancer Registry of Romania, known as ROncoVet-26, has as its main mission the prevention and control of tumor diseases in animals through collaboration between various specialists, researchers and animal owners.
All data will be managed and protected by RoncoVet-26 and used exclusively for scientific and academic purposes.
Communication platform. Development of a national database by collecting information on the incidence of oncological patients, types of cancer encountered, associated risk factors, post-diagnosis or post-therapy survival rates, as well as geolocation of cases.
Standardization. Uniformity of data by standardizing diagnostic methods, prognostic markers and therapeutic protocols (guidelines). Also, a unitary reporting is desired by using common terminology, staging and coding.
Education. Promoting collaboration at national level, facilitating communication in the field of veterinary oncology, by forming working groups, organizing workshops, congresses and continuous training, as well as disseminating data through specialized publications.
Applicability. Identification of relevant indicators for cancer and improving relations between researchers, laboratory doctors, clinicians and animal owners. Identification of new or emerging types of cancer, as well as neoplastic diseases of endemic or zoonotic nature. Identification of new causative agents (viral, bacterial, chemical, etc.) and sentinel models for human cancer.
